Each Labor Day weekend, the Reno‑Sparks Indian Colony’s Hungry Valley grounds host the Numaga Indian Days Powwow & Handgames—an open, free gathering of Native dancers, drummers and handgames players from across North America. Named in honor of Chief Numaga, the famed Northern Paiute leader whose name means “the generous giver,” the event is as much a celebration of culture as it is a living bridge between generations.
This collection seeks to honor the vibrancy, resilience and cultural vitality of the Paiute, Shoshone and Washoe communities of the Sparks Indian Colony—offering a glimpse into traditions of dance, drumming and community that continue to thrive, inspire and shape the present.
